Hanakapi'ai Falls | Hawaii, USA

Do yourself a favor and google “Na Pali Coast.” That is where this waterfall is located. When people ask me “what’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done?” this hike is always my answer. It is 8 miles round trip and fairly muddy- so be prepared. BUT THE VIEWS. You are walking along the Na Pali coastline then into the forest complete with water crossings and bamboo. When you finally reach the falls, a strong mist from the falling water is right there to cool you off. We spent a good amount of time floating around, swimming behind the waterfall against the rocks and letting the mist engulf us. Truly one of the coolest feelings. Everything about it was perfect- the sound of the water hitting the pool below, the mist covering the entire valley, and being able to share that surreal experience with friends. At the end of the hike, you’ll find showers and a restroom- very necessary if you are hiking in the wetter months. If you ever find yourself on Kauai, put this hike at the top of your itinerary. Do keep in mind though that a permit is required to hike- currently $20 USD a person/day ($5 USD off for residents). I would suggest researching before your trip as slots do fill quickly.
